Walking, Thinking, Feeling – The Magic of Countryside Walks

Sometimes, the simplest things can be the most powerful. One of those, for me, is heading out for a walk in the countryside with my dog Eevee.

There’s something about open fields, winding footpaths, and the fresh air that feels like a reset button for my mind. It’s not about going anywhere fast. It’s about the gentle rhythm of walking, the steady breathing, the way your thoughts can start to untangle when there’s no pressure to “fix” anything.

Walking is powerful because it gives you space — physical space around you, and mental space inside.
Ideas that feel messy or overwhelming indoors often start to soften and sort themselves out when you're moving outside.

Sometimes I listen to the birds, the crunch of my boots on the path, the occasional splash when my dog finds a puddle (and never fails to run straight through it). Sometimes I talk out loud to myself (or my dog — she’s a great listener). Other times, I just let the thoughts drift by, no pressure to make sense of them.

When life feels heavy, or when I'm sitting with big feelings, I’ve found that walking doesn’t always solve everything — but it helps. It makes it easier to hold whatever I’m carrying.

If you’re finding things tough, stuck, or just a bit 'too much,' maybe give it a try. Find a patch of green, a quiet lane, a muddy trail. Walk at your own pace. Let the land hold some of what you’re carrying. You might be surprised what a few slow miles can do.
